Maryland – I-895 bridge project begins

The right lane on northbound Interstate 895 across the Patapsco River Flats bridge will be closed continuously due to construction for a major repair project. The closure will affect the Baltimore bridge between Exit 4/Md. 295 and Exit 6/I-97 and Md. 2 spur. Motorists were told to expect delays during heavy travel times by the Maryland Transportation Authority, who said Interstate95/Fort McHenry Tunnel could be used as an alternate route. The repairing process began Monday night as part of a year’s long $48.5 million project to repair the bridge. In August, the right lane on the southbound lane will be closed for repair. State officials said both lanes are expected to reopen in the fall and construction will shift to the left lanes. The entire project is expected to be completed by summer 2019.
