A man serving 20 years for attempted murder has escaped from a minimum security prison in Jessup, Md. early Monday after scaling a razor wire fence. Escaping around 4:50 a.m., Larence Godfrey, sentenced in Prince George’s county in 2002, used blankets to cover the razor wire on top of the fence at Dorsey Run Correctional Facility. The blankets were found at 6:15 a.m. and at 7:42 a.m. security staff identified him as the missing inmate. Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services’ Warrant Apprehension Unit is searching for Godfrey, who was last seen on northbound U.S. 295 near Md. 100 between 7:20 a.m. and 7:40 a.m. Godfrey was expected to be released in two years. He is described as black, 5-foot-8 and approximately 140 pounds. Anyone who sees Godfrey should call 911.
