John Leopold sentenced for misconduct

On Thursday, former Anne Arundel County Executive John Leopold will be sentenced for two charges of misconduct in office. Leopold was found guilty last month of forcing his campaign staff to perform personal errands deemed inappropriate by Judge Dennis Sweeny.

Leopold could avoid jail time, with prosecutors suggesting he receive a 1-year suspended sentence, 5 years probation, 500 hours of community service, and over $100,000 in fines. Prosecutors argue that although Leopold’s actions warrant jail time, his health as a 70-year-old man should be taken into consideration during his sentencing.
