Former police officer charged with illegal gun sale

A former Ocean City Police officer and candidate for Worcester County Sheriff has been charged for illegally selling an AK-47.

According to Maryland State Police, David Catrino also provided the unidentified buyer with four loaded 30-round magazines for the weapon last month, and paperwork was never filed.

Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis says the gun was sold in the parking lot of Sherwood Ford in Salisbury, where the 45-year-old buyer was employed as a salesman.

Catrino was charged with the unlawful sale or transfer of a regulated firearm and four counts of assault weapons violations. He was released on bond.
