A new exhibit is opening today at Union Station which recounts the rich history of the “Great Migration.” Presented by Amtrak, the exhibit gives an account of the move millions of Southern African Americans took to the North in the beginning of the 20th century.

From about 1915 to 1970, 6 million African Americans left the rural south in search of new opportunities, taking passenger or fright trains provided by Amtrak. The exhibit will be on display until Sept. 26 where it will move to Baltimore’s Penn Station.
