Elia Miranski, 91, of Silver Spring, was killed when he was hit by a school bus carrying children. Traffic was then blocked for hours on the northbound Route 29 Wednesday. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. and none of the 14 Hammond Middle School students were hurt. Miranski was crossing the southbound lanes of Columbia Pike at the crosswalk, using his walker when he was struck by the bus. The students were returning from a field trip at the White House when the collision occurred and parents were contacted by a school crisis team. The accident is currently under investigation consisting of reviews of traffic signal sequences at the intersection.
