2 More Cases of Meningitis Reported in MD

A nationwide outbreak of meningitis has affected two more Maryland residents as of Monday evening. This new development brings the Maryland total to five out of more than 100 cases reported in nine states. The outbreak has been linked to a contaminated batch of steroids from a Maine pharmacy, which have since been recalled.

So far eight people have died, including one in Maryland. It is unknown exactly how many patients were treated with the steroid, but Maryland officials have stated that seven clinics in their state received the drug and investigations are underway to determine if any earlier cases may be linked to this outbreak.
