What appears to have begun as a disagreement between roommates in an off-campus residential home in College Park, Maryland left two dead and one injured. The incident was initially described only as a shooting, but police have now deemed it a murder-suicide. The roommate who was shot non-fatally is expected to survive.

Few details have been released as the case is under active investigation, but police say that around 1am the shooter lit a fire in the basement of the home the three men shared. When he was confronted, the men eventually ended up in the yard in front of the house, where the shooter took out a gun and shot the first roommate, and then the second as he tried to flee. The man then went inside and shot himself as well.

Students at the University of Maryland were kept informed by campus officials, and counseling resources have been established throughout the campus.
