Rapper Common speaks on Chicago youth
The Grammy-award winning rapper Common, who hails from the ‘windy city’, says that Chicago needs a better understanding of the city’s youth and its contribution to violence.
Common appeared Friday at a music conference where he addressed matters of violence amongst inner-city youth and the importance of support from the community. Hours before the event took place 13 people became victims in a violent attack at city park.
As poverty and gang violence continue to increase in the area, Common has launched a foundation to encourage youth to participate in creative arts.
