Fifty-one women from all over America competed Sunday night for the Miss USA titled. Nia Sanchez from Nevada was crowned at the end of the night. The twenty-four year old is a fourth-degree black belt in taekwondo and says women should be able to defend themselves as a way to battle the problem of campus rape. As an adult, she has volunteered at women’s shelters, teaching residents how to defend themselves and teaching kids about stranger danger. When asked about her feelings after being crowned, Miss USA said, “It’s a dream come true.”
