Kevin Clash quits Sesame Street

Amid ongoing allegation that he had sexual relations with underage boys in the past, Kevin Clash, the voice actor of Elmo, has resigned from Sesame Street. “Personal matters have diverted attention away from the important work Sesame Street is doing and I cannot allow it to go on any longer,” said Clash in a statement. Clash has continuously maintained that the allegations against him are false. His resignation signals the end of a 28 year long career in which Clash was the voice behind the iconic puppet that became the figurehead of the classic children’s show. However, most are confident that the character of Elmo is bigger than the person who animates him. “Elmo the character is larger than the person behind him,” says Jim Silver, editor-in-chief of TimeToPlay Mag.com. “Elmo will live on.”
