Caroline Kennedy’s daughters, upon listening to interview tapes of their famous grandmother, were “horrified” by her old-fashioned views on the role of women. The tapes were part of a series of interviews between Arthur Schlesinger Jr. and Jacqueline Jennedy Onassis, and in them she described her marriage as “a rather terribly Victorian or Asiatic relationship.” In the tapes, she also stated that she got her opinions from her husband, President John F. Kennedy.
Caroline Kennedy, in response to their shock, told her daughters the interviews were “just a snapshot of a world we barely recognize.” The interview tapes will be released Wednesday as well as the book, “Jacqueline Kennedy: Historic Conversations on Life With John F. Kennedy.”
