Katy Perry and Russel Brand’s divorce finalized
Singer Katy Perry and Comedian Russell Brand are officially divorced. Despite the pair’s divorce request being granted in February, their union was only officially dissolved Monday due to a California law that requires a minimum of six months before a divorce can be finalized. The 27-year-old “Fireworks” and “California Gurls” singer married the 37-year-old funnyman on Oct. 23, 2010. The British “Get Him to the Greek” actor surprised Perry when he filed for a divorce on Dec. 30, after 14 months of being married.
In Perry’s new documentary, “Katy Perry: Part Of Me,” she alludes to her relationship with Brand saying, “Being in love is a dream, but the reality is not like the movies. There’s a lot more compromise and sacrifice.” The film shows Perry flying to wherever Brand was working just to spend a couple days with him. She told the camera, “I’m trying to keep my marriage alive.” After he filed for divorce, a visibly upset Perry said, “The truth is I’m a romantic and I believed in the fairy tale … I did everything I could but it still failed.”
