D’Angelo: 1st US appearance in 12 years
After dodging the public eye for 12 years, reclusive R&B singer, D’Angelo, made his first live U.S. appearance at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival early Sunday morning. D’Angelo, who played live in Europe earlier this year, wasn’t expected to hit a U.S. stage until July’s Essence Music Festival. But for Bonnaroo’s annual Superjam, which promises mystery guests, Questlove of the Roots booked D’Angelo along with a band of studio all-stars. D’Angelo, whose hits include “Cruisin’” and “Left & Right,” performed with the band for a 90-minute jam session. Together, they presented their renditions of classics like Jimi Hendrix’s “Have You Ever Been to Electric Ladyland,” Led Zeppelin’s “What Is and What Should Never Be” and The Beatles’ “She Came in Through the Bathroom Window.”
