CBS tries to block ABC reality series

ABC is fighting to keep the premiere for its latest show, “The Glass House,” on schedule after efforts were made by CBS to block its debut. CBS urged a federal judge on Monday to reject ABC’s attempt to air the new reality show because it copies key elements of “Big Brother” and has also employed dozens of its former staffers. U.S. District Judge Gary Feess agreed last week that the case should be heard on an expedited basis, but no hearing date has been set.

ABC’s filing states the network has spent $16 million promoting “Glass House,” which is prepared to air for June 18. ABC argues that delaying the show’s premiere could cost nearly 150 people their jobs. According to ABC lawyers, “The Glass House” differs from “Big Brother” because the audience members make many of the contestants’ decisions and decides who remains in the house. ABC also claims many of its staffers also worked with Rosen on the show “Hell’s Kitchen” and that overlaps on reality shows are common.
