BET Awards tribute to Whitney Houston
Sunday night’s BET awards included big wins for artists Beyonce and Chris Brown and a special tribute to the late singer Whitney Houston. The “Party” and “Best Thing I Never Had” singer Beyonce was named best female R&B artist. While Chris Brown, who performed his single “Turn Up the Music” off his latest album “Fortune” won best male artist.
Grammy Award-winning singer Whitney Houston, who died in February of an accidental drowning brought on by cocaine use and heart disease, was praised and remembered through special performances from her friends and family. Singer Monica performed Houston’s “I Love The Lord,” while Brandy performed a medley of “I’m Your Baby Tonight” and “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.” Houston’s brother Gary sang “Where You Are,” while the “I Will Always Love You” singer’s mother Cissy performed “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” earning a standing ovation.
The show also paid homage to the late Donna Summer, Dick Clark and Don Cornelius.
