Aretha Franklin not attending baseball luncheon

Singer Aretha Franklin will not be attending a baseball luncheon at which she was to receive an honor for contributions to civil rights.

Franklin, 71, has recently cancelled multiple concerts due to undisclosed health reasons. In a statement made by Major League Baseball, the singer referred to ongoing “treatment” that prevents her from traveling.

Franklin and former baseball star Bo Jackson were to be presented with “Beacon” awards. The awards have been previously given to Willie Mays and Harry Belafonte. The MLB still plans to honor Franklin at a later date.
