Authorities are reopening their investigation into the death of Natalie Wood, a movie star who drowned in 1981 while boating off Catalina Island near the California coast. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office say they were contacted by people claiming to have “additional information” about the case. A news conference is scheduled for 11 a.m.Friday (2 p.m. ET).

Wood, who had once stated in an interview she feared dark seawater, was found drowned on Novermber 29, 1981 off the isthmus of Catalina Island. She was found wearing long nightgown, socks, and a down jacket, and an autopsy later revealed she had two dozen bruises on her body. Wood’s sister, Lana Wood, asked the sheriff’s office to reopen the case last year, along with Wood’s husband, actor Robert Wagner. “I just want the truth to come out, the real story,” Lana Wood said.
