The U.S. Postal service may soon begin to deliver groceries as well as mail in the D.C. area. USPS has put a proposal before the Postal Regulatory Commission to allow the coordination with retailers. The plan would include retailer-branded, pre-packed totes, insulated as necessary, to be picked up by the USPS between 1:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. These would then be dropped at a specified location outside the receiver’s home between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. The postal worker would not knock on the door. The USPS hopes to implement the program soon and begin delivery by Oct. 24. USPS has previously worked with Amazon in a similar program in the San Francisco area.
