Snapchat to make security changes due to system hacking

Snapchat says it plans to release a more secure version of its application following a recent security breach that allowed hackers to collect usernames and phone numbers of roughly 4.6 million of its users. The breach happened after security experts warned the company at least twice about vulnerability in its system.

Before announcing their plans to update the app, Snapchat officials had remained quiet, causing security specialists to wonder whether or not the seemingly young company could handle such spotlight since becoming so popular. In a blog post last Friday Snapchat say they applied “various safeguards” over the last year that would make it more difficult to steal large sets of phone numbers. Snapchat hasn’t released any details about the changes it has made.
