ESPN ends 3-D broadcasts

ESPN announced on Wednesday it will cease the broadcast of its 3-D channel by the end of 2013. The audience ratings for ESPN 3D have been below The Nielson Company’s measurable threshold for the last year or so, making the network decide broadcasting the channel was not worthwhile.

ESPN 3D was one of many 3D channels created after the success of the 3D film, “Avatar.” At the time, the company believed 3D television was going to become a popular part of the media industry.
