Automakers Report Best Sales in Years

0

Top automakers are reporting unusually high sales, making the month of August possibly the best sales month since before the recession. The total sales were reported at an seasonally adjusted annual rate of 16.1 million, a dramatic increase from the 14.5 million last year. Automakers are also benefiting from the fact that more individuals are buying cars, as opposed to the government and corporate buyers. Therefore, car manufacturers are making more money, as prices are usually higher for the individual buyer. Senior analyst for Edmunds.com, Michelle Krebs, says that August had one of the lowest percentages of corporate fleet sales. “The sales are clearly on the strength of individual car buyers going to their dealers and buying a car.”

Ford, Chrysler, General Motors and Toyota have all reported sales increases, and Ford even announced that it will increase production to meet the growing demand. Hybrids were especially popular this season, and cars like the Chevy Volt, which underwent a price cut, saw their best sales yet.
