In February, a junior Navy sailor tried to access President Biden’s medical records three times through the military’s Genesis Medical Health System but failed. The sailor, based at Fort Belvoir and part of the Navy’s hospital corps, was administratively disciplined after an investigation concluded in April. The Navy confirmed that the sailor’s attempts were unsuccessful in retrieving the president’s information, as the system’s security measures kept Biden’s records inaccessible. The Naval Criminal Investigative Service started the investigation after a co-worker reported the incident, and the sailor admitted to searching out of curiosity. The White House was notified of the breach attempts by the Defense Department shortly after they occurred.
President Biden’s annual physical at Walter Reed National Medical Center took place on February 28, just days after the investigation began, and was not influenced by the incident. The physical confirmed that the president was “fit for duty” and identified no new health concerns except for a diagnosis of sleep apnea. This physical assessment came after a February 5 report from special counsel Robert Hur, which, while not recommending charges against Biden for mishandling classified documents, questioned his memory and competence due to his age. This incident reignited discussions about Biden’s capability to serve, with figures like Nikki Haley calling for mental competency tests for both Biden and former President Trump.
