For travelers looking for Gothic tales of suspense and horror, the “Poe Evermore” experience provides spooky thrills for all visitors. An offshoot of the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire, “Poe Evermore” takes place during the first two weeks of November. Edgar Allen Poe’s work has captivated readers for centuries. He is considered the father of the horror genre, and his stories are steeped in psychological thrills.

With “Poe Evermore,” visitors are taken into that world of mystery and the macabre. The event takes place at the Mount Hope Mansion in northern Lancaster County, and the Victorian atmosphere lends itself well to the setting. Guests are greeted by the “ghost” of Edgar Allen Poe and led through the rooms featuring scenes from some of his most famous stories. Every year the troupe of players presents a different selection of stories. “The Tell-Tale Heart” tells the story of a murderer driven to madness by his own paranoid delusions. In “The Cask of Amontillado”, a man called Montresor seeks revenge on Fortunato, leaving viewers to wonder what grievance could drive him to commit the act. “The Premature Burial” plays on the fears of the time by telling the story of a man consumed with the dread that he might be buried alive. The event culminates in a dramatic reading of “The Raven,” Poe’s classic poem of a love lost, a living death and a persistent raven visitor.

“Poe Evermore” is an experience that is rewarding for lovers of classic American literature and suspenseful drama alike. The experience runs November 2 through November 14, with show times on weekdays (Tuesday through Thursday) at 7:30 p.m.; Fridays at 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.; Saturdays at 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday at 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Special midnight shows will occur on Friday, November 12 and Saturday, November 13. Ticket prices are $21.95 on weekends and $18.95 on weekdays.

The event also offers special deals for guests seeking dining accommodations with “Lunch and a Show” or “Dinner and a Show” options. The package deal includes a meal prior to the show at the Swashbuckler Pub. Tickets for the show (regular and with meal options) can be purchased through the Virtual Box Office at PaRenFaire.com or by calling the Box Office at (717) 665-7021. Additionally, the Hampton Inn hotel in Manheim offers lodging with room and show package deals. Visitors can call (717) 665-6600 for information on booking.

Mount Hope Estate & Winery, home of the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire, is located on Route 72, half a mile south of PA Turnpike exit 266, 15 miles north of Lancaster and 14 miles east of Hershey.
