First Lady Michelle Obama hosted an energetic crowd of children of the Executive Office staff for a morning of tours, talks with park rangers, pastry tasting and a question and answer session. April 26, 2012 marked the 20th anniversary of Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. Originally created to

build a bridge between education and work relationships amongst parents and their children, this nationally recognized public program provides educational experiences for children to explore balanced workplace options for their futures outside of school. Throughout the country, businesses and corporations were bustling with children learning about the inner workings of their parent’s jobs. This was also the case at the White House.

During the session, children asked the First Lady questions about her life in the White House and the projects she plans to work on in the future. The other kid friendly questions included whether she would ever run for president, when she knew she would be a lawyer, and what she likes to do on her birthday. When asked if she would consider running for president in the future, the First Lady replied, “Absolutely not.” The session ended with hugs, high fives and the audience singing the cha-cha-cha version of happy birthday.
