President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama welcomed German Chancellor Angela Merkel and her husband, Joachim Sauer to the White House for ceremony and celebration on Tuesday. In a ceremony laden with pomp and circumstance, the President bestowed the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Chancellor Merkel, who is the first female Chancellor of Germany. Following the ceremony, singer James Taylor provided the entertainment under the starry summer night in the Rose Garden.
