A survey of D.C. Police Union members found that they do not have confidence in Police Chief Cathy Lanier. The union asked its members “Do you have confidence that Chief Cathy Lanier is able to properly manage the resources of the Metropolitan Police Department and keep the citizens safe?” Of the over 3,600 members, only 1,150 of them responded, with 97.5 percent answering “No.” The union said in a news release that the vote is a symbolic gesture of its members’ desire for a new direction in D.C. policing. According to a survey of registered D.C. voters, Lanier has an approval rating of 60 percent.
