Donald Trump has suggested using the military to gain control of Greenland and the Panama Canal, citing national security concerns. Trump declared both territories vital to U.S. interests and sent a delegation, including Donald Trump Jr., to Greenland.
Asked about the potential use of force, Trump stated, “I’m not going to commit to that.” Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark and home to a large U.S. military base, is a founding NATO member and ally of the United States. The Panama Canal, controlled solely by Panama since 1999, plays a critical role in global trade.
The announcement represents a significant departure from traditional U.S. foreign policy, which has historically focused on internal security rather than territorial expansion.
