Thousands of people gathered in Washington, D.C., on Saturday for the People’s March, advocating for reproductive rights, women’s rights, and minority rights, among other causes. Originally known as the Women’s March, the event was first held days before Trump’s first inauguration. While rebranded, the People’s March aims to achieve the same goals as its predecessor.
Protesters began rallying Saturday morning and marched to the Lincoln Memorial for a full rally and fair in the afternoon. Organizers prepared for over 50,000 attendees, despite cold temperatures that forced the inauguration indoors. This marks the first of several busy days in Washington, D.C., with the People’s March, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Peace Walk and Parade, and the inauguration occurring over the next three days. Several grassroots organizations have also joined the protests.
