U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon has authorized the release of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s report detailing Donald Trump’s alleged interference in the 2020 presidential election. The report is expected to be released just a week before Trump’s inauguration for his second term as president.

A temporary hold remains in place until Tuesday, while defense lawyers have signaled plans to escalate the case to the Supreme Court. Cannon, appointed by Trump in 2016, previously delayed the report’s release and split Trump’s case into two separate criminal investigations.

Additionally, Cannon has scheduled a Friday hearing to address the release of another volume related to Trump’s alleged retention of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago following his 2020 election loss to Joe Biden.
