About a dozen people are on the ballot to replace Angela Alsobrooks as Prince George’s County executive. However, one of the bigger names on the list has formally ended her campaign. Jolene Ivey was an At-Large County Council Member who currently serves as the chair of the council. Ivey confirmed she was dropping out of the race earlier in the week. Ivey issued a statement where she said, “I want to thank all of my volunteers and supporters for standing with me.” Ivey’s statement went on to say, “I look forward to continuing to fight for the people of Prince George’s County as a member of the County Council.” Ivey reiterated in a statement to local news sources that her reasons for dropping out of the race were “personal, financial, and practical.”
Early voting in the primary will begin in just two weeks, and Ivey has not given her support to any candidate in the race for the executive seat. The other member of the council who is at-large is Calvin Hawkins, as is former executive Rushern Baker and current state’s attorney Aisha Braveboy.
