Homicides hit 5-year high

This year has witnessed more homicides in Washington, D.C. since 2010. One was killed and six others injured in shootings across the 7th District on Monday. The 7th District, east of the Potomac and Anacostia rivers, recorded a 95 percent increase in homicides this year. Police Chief Cathy Lanier holds responsible illegal guns possessed by repeat criminals responsible for the sudden rise. “The people that are committing the crimes — the homicides in particular — that are repeat violent gun offenders, has almost doubled,” she says.
