American art teacher Dahlia Yehia arrived in Nepal on July 20th to help in the aftermath of April’s earthquake. Yehia, who was to serve in Pokhara, was killed by a teacher named Narayan Paudel. Officials state that Paudel confessed to beating Yehia to death and dumping her body in the river in a sack. Paudel said that he killed her on August 4th, according to Kaski District Police superintendent Hari Bahadur Pal. Yehia’s body has not yet been recovered.

Her family and friends had been keeping a Facebook page, “Find Dahlia.” “We are devastated by this senseless loss of a beautiful life,” the page reads. “For those who haven’t had the joy of spending time with Dahlia, know that she is a giver, lover, and humanitarian, who devoted her life to others less fortunate both domestic and abroad.”
