In Case You Missed It

Geri Mendelson of Silver Spring, Maryland shares her photo (shown here, left) of trumpeter Chris Botti after his Valentine’s Day performance at the Kennedy Center.  Mendelson is an enormous Chris Botti fan and attended an earlier concert in Baltimore.  It is customary for Botti to go out and greet his fans after each concert.  Mendelson, who is suffering from cancer, was eager to meet Botti, but was instructed by a rude security guard to go to end of the line.  She waited in the long line to take a photo with Botti, but eventually grew tired and could not stand any longer.  DC Spotlight’s editor-in-chief, Wendy Thompson, was on hand to take photos and promised to send Mendelson photos of the performance.  Mendelson returned the favor by supplying DC Spotlight with these photos of Mendelson holding the Chris Botti photo.  Beverly Miller of Baltimore, Maryland, (shown here, right) was Mendelson’s friend and caretaker that night.

Botti’s concert that night was simply sublime. At the height of his performance, during his signature song, “The Very Thought of You”, Botti walked out into the audience to the elation of screaming fans.  Singer Lisa Fischer accompanied him and also put on a splendid performance throughout the concert.
