Washington Gas wants huge rate hike in D.C.

Washington Gas is going after regulators in the District to increase a 9.6 percent hike for Washington residents who use natural gas services. The monthly increase would equate to an average of $7.94 per month. If the rate is approved the increase would begin February 2017. About 157,000 of Washington Gas’ 1.1 million customers in the region live in the District.

Student volunteer convicted on 13 counts of child pornography

Last week, Deonte Carraway was arrested on charges of child sexual abuse at Judge Sylvania Woods Elementary School in Glenarden.  The 22-year-old school volunteer faces 13 charges including exploitation to produce child pornography. Carraway volunteered at a school and orchestrated a children’s choir in the nearby community where his victims consisted of children between the ages of 9 and 12. Court documents indicate that Carraway would engaged in sex acts with the children as well as directed sexual behaviors between them. Initial federal charges against the former volunteer have been converted to state charges.

14-year-old gunman shoots students in school cafeteria in Ohio

Madison Junior-Senior High School in Middletown, Ohio was the scene where 14-year-old gunman James Austin Hancock shot two students in the school cafeteria. Two other students were injured during the school shooting on Monday; all four victims are expected to survive. Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones told reporters that Austin Hancock faces charges as a juvenile of attempted murder, felonious assault, inducing panic, and making terrorist threats.

Clinton to continue her “winning” strategy, not mentioning Sanders

After winning in South Carolina, the Hillary Clinton campaign will continue their strategy of avoiding the mentioning of rival candidate Bernie Sanders. Clinton’s strategy began earlier in the month of February, when she would not discuss Sanders in the days leading up the South Carolina primary. The same strategy has been used in the days leading up to Super Tuesday, the Hillary campaign says it sees no upside in going after Sanders.

“Naked Gun” actor George Kennedy dies at 91

Academy Award actor, George Kennedy has died at the age of 91 in Boise, Idaho of old age. According to his grandson Cory Schenkel, Kennedy died Sunday morning. He starred  performances in supporting roles include “Cool Hand Luke”, “Naked Gun”,  and “Airport 1975”.  Following his emergency triple bypass surgery in 2002, his wife moved in with him to be closer to their daughter. Kennedy was a Hollywood favorite and also published a few murder mysteries during his career.
