Sanders, Clinton neck-and-neck in California poll

According to an NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll released Wednesday, Democratic candidates Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are running neck-and-neck in California’s Tuesday primary race. Clinton leads Sanders by a slim margin, each polling at 49% and 47% respectively. The poll finds that Clinton has support among older voters and women, while Sanders gets the votes of younger voters and men, trends that have been common throughout the primary race. Pentagon employee charged with stealing license plates

Bryan Whitman, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs at the Pentagon, is accused of stealing license plates off a vehicle of a neighbor’s nanny three times during the one month. The nanny’s vehicle had Virginia license plates, and on April 4 a note was found on the car saying the driver was “misusing the visitor pass to park (there) daily.” On April 6, both license plates were stolen from the vehicle. When the plates were replaced, they were stolen again on April 8. The nanny then brought a different vehicle to work and the rear plate was stolen April 21. The nanny’s employer set up security cameras and the police were able to identify Whitman as the culprit. Whitman was charged with three counts of second-degree theft; although his case will be dismissed if he pays the neighbor and her nanny $1,000 restitution, completes 32 hours of community service, stays away from both women and doesn’t break the law during the next 10 months.

22 people rescued from sinking boat

A good Samaritan rescued 22 people, including children, off a sinking workboat in the Chesapeake Bay. According to Candy Thomson of the Maryland Natural Resources Police, the boat, identified as the Karen N., began to sink after hitting something submerged southwest of Bloodsworth Island around 6 p.m. Wednesday. ABC News reports some of the people on the boat ended up in the water, including the children. Although the Coast Guard was alerted, another workboat pulled everyone aboard and brought them to the shore in Wingate. “You put 22 people in the water and get 22 people out, that’s pretty amazing,” Thomson said. The captain of the Karen N. was flown to a hospital and others were taken to local hospitals as well.
