D.C. holds drug take-back day
With the rise in opioid overdoses, the District’s Attorney General Karl Racine wants the drug take-back event to be an effective way to lower those casualties. The event will be held on Wednesday, April 27th at One Judiciary Square in the lobby of Racine’s office. Racine’s office is working with the DEA on this event to lower opioid deaths, which have been steadily rising in the District in recent years.

Primary election results: Van Hollen, Brown, Pugh and Raskin wins
The 2016 Primary elections in Maryland proved to be a winning night for some veteran politicians. Representative Chris Van Hollen defeated Representative Donna Edwards to fill the seat of the retiring Senator Barbara Mikulski. Former Lt. Governor Anthony Brown defeated Glenn Ivey for District 4 to fill a seat in the House of Representatives. Jamie Raskin defeated stalwarts David Trone and Kathleen Matthews for the District 8 House seat. In Baltimore, Catherine Pugh defeated Sheila Dixon in her bid to fill the seat of Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, who will not seek re-election. Both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton won the GOP and Democrat primaries, respectively, in their bids for president.

Ex-Governor Bob McDonnell forms consulting firm with sister
While Ex-Governor Bob McDonnell awaits a ruling from the Supreme Court on whether he should serve his two-year sentence for corruption and taking bribes, he and his sister, Maureen, has formed The McDonnell Group. The company is a consulting firm in Virginia. McDonnell is currently a consultant for The ESG Corporation.

Sister: Prince left no will for over $300 million estate
According to the sister of recording artist Prince, the singer left no will or beneficiary for his estate, reportedly worth over $300 million. Tyka Nelson filed probate papers in Minnesota’s Carver County and stated that there is no known will for Prince’s estate. Experts conclude that with no spouse or living parents, his estate by law would be divided equally between his full sibling, Tyka and his half siblings, of which he has several.

Big Ben, the “Great Clock” will be stopped for repairs
For over a century and a half, Big Ben, the gigantic London clock has kept accurate time, but London officials are now taking precautionary measures to prevent an untimely failure of the clock. In early 2017, the clock will be stopped for a $42 million repair job that will span over three years. This procedure has only occurred three times since the clock was built. The clocks sits in Elizabeth Tower near the House of Parliament in London.
