Man arrested in shooting of 7-year-old girl
In Southwest Washington, D.C. over the weekend, Michael Wiggins, 27, shot a 7-year-old girl, injuring her. Wiggins was arrested and charged for the incident that took place on Friday. The altercation happened around 9:40 p.m. involving a small group of people that ended in the shooting of the 7-year-old who was caught in the crossfire. She was walking with her father and a 4-year-old brother returning from dinner. In a news conference on Monday, Mayor Muriel Bowser said, “We certainly don’t tolerate any level of violence in our city and are shocked that a child walking with her family could get caught in this crossfire.”

Man charged with death of newborn
Maryland State Police in a statement said they have arrested Kyle J. Poindexter. Poindexter is guilty of the death of his 2-month-old daughter Avery Poindexter. Police said the newborn was pronounced dead on Friday at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Hospital workers called officers when they saw bruises on the baby’s head and face. Avery Poindexter is charged with second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.

Retired football player Will Smith shot to death
On Saturday night, when former Super Bowl champion Will Smith was shot in a traffic incident in New Orleans. Smith, who played 10 seasons in the NFL, primarily with the New Orleans Saints, was murdered by Cordell Hayes, 28, who shot Smith in the back and side according to officers. Hayes’ orange H2 Hummer rear ended Smith’s silver Mercedes G63, causing him to rear-end two acquaintances of Smith’s. Hayes was the victim of a hit and run before his altercation with Smith. Hayes hasn’t identified Smith as the man who hit him prior to the shooting. Smith and Hayes “exchanged words” before Hayes shot the former New Orleans Saints defensive captain multiple times and shot Smith’s wife in the right leg, police said. Hayes now stands charged with second-degree murder.

Sanders: Clinton ‘condescending’ to young voters
In an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union”, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders said it’s “condescending” for young voters to link Hillary Clinton to the fossil fuel industry. Sanders said the “youth haven’t done their research,” continuing his ongoing battle with Clinton. Last week he claimed she wasn’t “qualified” to be president. “I think that’s a little bit condescending,” Sanders said. “I’ll tell you my experience with young people… I see them every day, because they’re coming out to our rallies. These are young people who want to be involved in shaping the future of this country.”

Khloe Kardashian with emotional Instagram post
Reality star Khloe Kardashian, the middle child of the five Kardashian sisters took to Instagram this past weekend with an emotional post. Kardashian posted a photo which read, “It doesn’t matter how loyal you are to someone. You can’t change someone’s heart and bad habits unless they want to themselves.” Under the photo Kardashain added a long caption, “Letting go with love takes great strength.” The caption continued, “We have to learn to stop taking on peoples problems as if they are our own. Loving people does not mean we have to carry their burdens and confusions on our back.” Kardashian’s estranged husband, Lamar Odom, continues to recover from drug abuse, which led to a drug overdose at the Love Ranch in Nevada.
