Police search for missing teen

A 15-year-old girl is missing — last seen leaving “the 5300 block of Dix Street in Northeast on Monday, May 11.” Diamond Ridgeway is described as 5 feet, 8 inches, weighing approximately 164 pounds. She is African-American with brown eyes, brown hair, light complexion and wear glasses. Veterans History Project comes close to 100,000 milestone

The Library of Congress works to build a massive collection containing the oral accounts of history. The Project recounts thousands of memories of war, holds letter, displays photos and memoirs used by Historians. In its 15th year, it holds an excess of 96,000 documents and researchers hope to break the next milestone by the end of 2015.

 

Pennsylvania

Police: Man shot BB at child, said child shot his son

Authorities say a man, Albert Clark, fired a BB gun — twice — at an 11-year old boy while in a playground Monday. The Pennsylvania man claimed the boy had shot his 5-year-old with a similar weapon. Clark was arrested and faces charges including aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.

 

Maryland

Man dies after igniting gas station fire

A bystander attempted to save a man on Sunday after he lit a cigarette at a gas station. The smoker was pumping gas when the fumes erupted into flames. The bystander put out the flames, but because of the severity of burns on the smoker, he was rushed to the hospital. Fire officials have not yet released the name of deceased man, pending notification of his family.

 

Infant survives 4-story plunge

A 1-year-old girl fell from the fourth floor of an apartment building Saturday night and was taken to the hospital. The child is expected to recover, but County police urge parents to put locks on their windows to ensure the safety of young children. The investigation into how the incident happened is still ongoing.

3 dead, several missing from record storms in Texas, Oklahoma

The destruction caused by the rains left Texas Governor Abbott to add 24 more Counties to the already 13, placed under an emergency disaster pronouncement. A dozen people alone were missing in Hays County, Texas — they were said to suffer the most with hundreds of homes being washed away or damaged from flooding.

Ireland said ‘yes’ to same-sex marriage

Traditionally, Ireland has held a large Catholic and conservative population; so, when the World heard the country had approved same-sex marriage May 22, it came as a shock to the press. The state’s urban population now adapts to something known as “cultural” Catholicism, which regard the attendance of regular mass, less significant. CNN reports there are less individuals that feel obligated to abide by “the edicts of the bishops” because of the rampant sexual indiscretions; therefore, voting ‘yes’ to the referendum.

 

Politics

Senate obstructs the renewal of NSA program

Saturday morning the National Security Agency’s collection program expired, discontinuing the “anti-terror” measurement. Congress left nothing but doubt in its agenda to keep the Patriot Act afloat. Senate Majority Leader McConnell vowed to return May 31 with one last attempt to keep the program from expiring.
