U.S. Marine helicopter goes missing in Nepal

U.S. defense official announced Tuesday that a U.S. military helicopter carrying six Marines and two Nepalese soldiers went missing. They were on a mission delivering aid to Nepal, in attempt to help the earthquake victims. So far, there has been no evidence indicating the aircraft crashing.

Woman tossed 1-year-old off bridge

Johnesha Monae Perry is charged with homicide for throwing her child off a bridge, where he then plummeted 50 feet into the Lehigh River. The child, Zymeir Perry was pulled from the water from Emergency Personnel and then revived. However, he was declared brain dead from the event six days later, and removed from life support.

Man killed first wife, then tried to kill second from prison

A Florida resident Lonnie Kocontes, is awaiting trial for allegedly strangling his ex-wife and throwing her overboard during a cruise. The Orange County prosecutors said he planned to hire two inmates to kill another ex-wife, who testified against him for the previous murder case. Kocontes has plead not guilty.

City leaders ask Mayor to protest Pepco-Exelon merger

City leaders are rallying together to join the opposition against a deal for a Chicago company to overtake Pepco. Many cannot see “Exelon as a full partner…to continue the high standards we have for improving the environment…” Many Council members have expressed concern over this deal being in the interests of the power companies and they believe utility rates will eventually increase alongside the lost local jobs.

Five men charged with animal cruelty for hosting cockfighting ring

When deputies arrived on the scene, they stumbled on a large number of roosters showing signs of fighting. Upon further inspection the deputies found “devices and substances intended to enhance an animal’s ability to fight or inflict injury.” All five individuals face felony animal fighting charges and the penalties could be up to five years in jail or simply $2,500.

University dean files lawsuit against Rolling Stone

Nicole Eramo, the associate dean of the University of Virginia is suing Rolling Stone magazine. She claims they casted her into a villain role when they published a piece about a gang rape taking place on campus. Eramo is filing a defamation lawsuit to hold the magazine accountable.

Construction worker collapses from carbon monoxide

Paramedics responded to a 911 after a worker suddenly collapsed. When they arrived on the scene and determined the cause was high levels carbon monoxide, they evacuated the building. The workers did not have proper ventilation on site for their “gas-powered equipment.” 8 of the 11, who reported symptoms, were taken to Shock Trauma in Baltimore.

Food Network star Sandra Lee has cancer

Sandra Lee announced Tuesday on ABC’s “Good Morning America” that she has breast cancer. Lee wanted to encourage women to get screened and hoped that her announcement would make that possible. She energetically told viewers to “go pick up your phone, and call your doctor…and get a mammogram right now.”
