Gauguin attacker strikes again, attacks Matisse painting

The woman who has been donned the “Gauguin attacker” has struck again. On August 5, Susan Burns, an Alexandria, Virginia resident attacked the 1919 Henri Matisse painting “The Plumed Hat”, throwing it against the wall.  The painting, a piece in the collection at Washington’s National Gallery of Art, was left intact, but the frame was badly damaged.

In April, Burns attacked the $80 million Paul Gauguin painting, “Two Tahitian Women”.  A condition of her release involved her promise to stay away from museums and galleries.  She is currently under evaluation at a mental facility.
