After New Hampshire, GOP race moves to South Carolina

On the heels of the New Hampshire primary, the GOP candidates set their sights on South Carolina. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney won with 40 percent of the votes in New Hampshire, Texas Rep. Ron Paul came in second with 23 percent, and former Utah Gov. and U.S. Ambassador Jon Huntsman secured 17 percent. The other candidates made it clear to Romney that South Carolina would be a battle.

As the first Southern state in the caucus season, the more conservative candidates may find it easier to gain headway there. “We’re going to go all out to win South Carolina. We think that’s a key state for us,” former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said. Romney said that while he has no plans of discounting his opponents, “I really think we’re best off focusing on the failures of this president.”
