The Army has completed their solar energy project at Fort Detrick in Frederick. The 67-acre project is designed to provide around 12 percent of the post’s electricity. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be lead by Assistant Secretary of the Army Katherine Hammack on Friday. According to the Army’s Office of Energy Initiatives, the energy comes from nearly 60,000 solar panels that can produce 15 megawatts, which is enough to power 2,700 homes. The project is located in a section of the fort called Area B and cost $35 million.
