First-week sales of Taylor Swift’s fifth album, 1989, brought the singer to the second-best-selling spot of 2014. Swift became the only solo platinum artist of the year in the same week. Controversially, Swift pulled her music from Spotify after the 1989 release. The singer, who entered the music world in country at the age of 16, has gone fully pop with the new album. 1989 had the biggest week sales since 2002 with 600,000 copies in the first day, and more than 1.3 million in the week. Swift broke her own sales record, becoming the nineteenth album to sell over a million copies in one week since 1991, as well as becoming the first artist with three albums that each sold a million or more copies in a week.
