Oprah Winfrey was presented with an honorary Doctor of Laws degree during Harvard’s commencement ceremonies in Cambridge, Massachusetts. During her speech, she encouraged esteemed graduates to “max out your humanity.”
Commencement events took place on Thursday, and the famed talk show host and media mogul spoke to graduates about finding their story, which Winfrey defined as a true calling or purpose. “You now have a chance to better your life, the life of your neighbors and that of your country… When you do that, that’s when your story gets really good.”
Winfrey also encouraged graduates to not be afraid of failure. She noted that failure is simply life trying to move us in another direction.
Ultimately, graduates need to be true to themselves and open to sharing who they are, she said.
