In the biggest event boxing has staged in years, Floyd Mayweather defeated Manny Pacquiao Saturday night by unanimous decision after twelve rounds. All three judges in Las Vegas agreed on a comprehensive victory for Mayweather. 38-year-old Mayweather remained unbeaten to take his record to 48-0 after neutralizing Pacquiao’s speed and power at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino. However, Filipino congressman was adamant it was he that won the fight. The three judges, Burt Clements and Dave Moretti (from Nevada) and Glenn Feldman (from Connecticut), scored the match at 116-112, 118-110 and 116-112 in Mayweather’s favor respectively. Moretti only deemed Pacquiao to have won two rounds (the fourth and the sixth) while Clements and Feldmen also gave the ninth and tenth to the 36-year-old. Mayweather also had the edge when it came to the punch stats, outdoing Pacquiao with his jabs and power-packed punches. Mayweather, known for his defensive proficiency, was able to tie up Pacquaio and escape him, with quick movements around the ring. He landed some pretty substantial punches himself, at times turning into the aggressor in the fight. But in the end proved to be the superior strategist, Pacquaio, famous for his aggressiveness, darting position and ability to move in and throw flurries of rapid-fire, forceful punches, was not able to do that during the match Saturday. Mayweather landed 148 of 435 punches; Pacquaio went 81 for 429.
