It was a big night for ABC at the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards, with “Mad Men” winning best drama series and “Modern Family” taking the award for comedy. The sitcom also took home awards in four other categories. PBS’ “Downtown Abbey” won best miniseries, and also had the recognition of being the most honored miniseries. Recognition for acting was given in several categories, with Jim Parsons from “The Big Bang Theory” winning for best lead actor in a comedy. Melissa McCarthy of “Mike & Molly” won best actress. Supporting actor and actress in a comedy both went to stars from “Modern Family.”
In the drama category, best actor went to “Friday Night Lights” star Kyle Chandler. Julianna Marguilies of “The Good Wife” won best actress. Best supporting actor in a drama series was Peter Dinklage of HBO’s “Game of Thrones.” Margo Martindale won in the best supporting actress category for her role in “Justified.”
“The Daily Show” won its ninth Emmy for best variety, music or comedy series.
