When Maddie, 6, and Malachi, 8, two members of the DC Spotlight’s Cool Kids Club, joined the club, they welcomed the opportunity to give back to the community in the Washington, D.C. metro area. In fact, teaching kids in our neighborhoods and schools how to give back to our community is the reason the Cool Kids Club was founded. For December, Maddie and Malachi collected can goods and other nonperishable foods for the Sasha Bruce Youthwork shelters for homeless children. The two pint-sized kids went door-to-door in the Colesville neighborhood in Maryland and collected a hefty box of foods of various sorts. On the eve of Christmas, the kids were delighted in knowing that some of the food they collected would be served during dinner on Christmas day at Chloe House, a shelter for girls in Washington, D.C.

Both Maddie and Malachi thoroughly enjoyed this giving project and have already begun thinking of great ideas and ways to give back to the community in the month of January. Maddie and Malachi are two kids — along with other kids in the club – who are destined to do great things. Good work kids!
