Obama says it’s ‘possible’ Putin is trying to get Trump elected

President Barack Obama on Tuesday said it’s possible that Russian President Vladimir Putin could be attempting to swing votes in favor of Donald Trump. When asked whether Russians could be working to influence the election, Obama replied, “Anything’s possible.” “Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed admiration for Vladimir Putin,” Obama said during the sit-down with NBC News. “And I think that Trump’s gotten pretty favorable coverage back in Russia.” Democrats have been alleging that Putin is seeking to control the election after WikiLeaks released damaging emails from the organization after a DNC data breach.

‘Miss Cleo’ dies at 53

Psychic Readers Network pitchwoman Youree Dell Harris, better known as “Miss Cleo,” died Tuesday of cancer, according to a family attorney. Attorney William J. Cone said Harris, 53, said she was surrounded by family and friends when she died in Palm Beach, Florida. “She remained a pillar of strength throughout. She has touched so many lives, both within her family and in the community,” Cone said in a statement. “She will be dearly missed by us all.” Harris became famous in the late 1990’s when she became the face of the famous TV infomercials. “She’s become a household name simply by the sheer force of her psychic gifts, which she’s honed since she was a little girl in the Caribbean,” the company’s site advertised at the time. “Born in the Trelawny section of Jamaica, Miss Cleo says she noticed at a very young age that she had unique talents.”

Washington Monument reopening delayed until Friday

Elevator problems in the Washington Monument have delayed it’s reopening until Friday, the National Park Service said. The park service said Tuesday a faulty bearing caused problems with the elevator Saturday morning. NPS estimated earlier this week the monument would reopen Wednesday. “We’re taking advantage of the closure to complete some outstanding maintenance work on the system, including a thorough cleaning of the accumulated dirt and grime on the elevator cab, and adjusting the gap on the car doors,” NPS spokesman Mike Litterst told WTOP. “These are projects that can’t be done while the elevator’s in operation, but which we believe will increase the long term reliability of the system.”

Woman injured after fall from ride at Frederick Co. Fair

A woman has been injured after falling 30 to 40 feet from a ride at the Frederick County Fair. Frederick County Sheriff Lenny Millholland said the incident happened Monday evening. The 47-year-old woman had been riding the Super Shot, which takes riders into the air before dropping them straight down. Millholland says the woman’s seat appears to have dislodged from the ride. The woman fell 30 to 40 feet, sustaining multiple injuries. She was taken to Winchester Medical Center and her condition is unknown at this time. The Shenandoah Valley Fire Department said in a tweet that a cable on the ride broke, causing the incident.

Pretrial motions heard for fifth Baltimore officer

Pretrial motions are scheduled to begin for the fifth Baltimore police officer facing criminal charges in the arrest and death of 25-year-old prisoner Freddie Gray whose neck was broken in the back of a police van. Officer Garrett Miller faces assault, misconduct in office and reckless endangerment charges. Prosecutors say Miller illegally arrested Gray and was negligent for failing to buckle Gray into a seatbelt or call a medic when he indicated he wanted to go to a hospital. So far, four other officers have gone to trial for Gray’s death. The trials ended in three acquittals and one mistrial.
