Abedin, Weiner separating after new sexting allegations against Weiner

Huma Abedin, a longtime aide to Hillary Clinton, announced she and former US Rep. Anthony Weiner are separating after new allegations surfaced that Weiner sent sexually explicit photos again. “After long and painful consideration and work on my marriage, I have made the decision to separate from my husband. Anthony and I remain devoted to doing what is best for our son, who is the light of our life. During this difficult time, I ask for respect for our privacy,” Abedin said in a statement Monday. The New York Post said the woman whom Weiner sent the photos to came forward with 12 selfies from him. 40 cases of Hepatitis A in Virginia now linked to smoothies

Virginia officials say the number of confirmed cases of Hepatitis A that are connected to frozen strawberries used at Tropical Smoothie Cafe locations is up to 40 cases from 28 cases last week. Fifty-five percent of the infected smoothie patrons have been hospitalized, the Virginia Department of Health said in a statement. Tropical Smoothie Cafe has more the 500 locations across the country, and Virginia is not the only state with infected customers. The franchise pulled all the potentially contaminated berries from its 96 locations in Virginia no later than Aug. 8 or Aug. 9. Officials say more cases could emerge because some symptoms of Hepatitis A take as long as 50 days to emerge.

Deadly Maryland intersection gets safety improvement

Maryland State Highway Administration crews have begun work to improve the safety at a River Road intersection where a deadly February car crash killed three members of one family. Workers will install traffic-activated overhead flashing signs in both directions to warn when vehicles are turning left onto Braeburn Parkway. Traffic on Braeburn Parkway will be limited to right turns only onto River Road, and left-turning traffic from River Road onto Braeburn will be moved into separate turn lanes. However, some residents say the changes are not enough. “I think that the community will not find the improvements that are underway now to be anywhere near adequate,” said Richard Boltuck, of the Bannockburn Civic Association. “The alternative that the community very strongly preferred was to close the Braeburn intersection, regarding it as inherently dangerous.”
